Getting around town

 Reaching Bansko is usually most easily done by bus, car or train. Although there are buses running throughout the town, distances are quite short and most of the town can be explored on foot. Most hotels provide transport to and from the Gondola lift.

 

Things to see and do

    The Bansko nearby area is captivating and rich in history and century old cultural sites worth visiting while in town.

 Staroto Gradishte is a site which reveals remains from ancient fortresses. It is situated some four kilometers west of the Ulen site, along the bank of the Demianitsa River. Thracian tumuli have been dug in the vicinity and a burial site from 2 BC uncovered bronze surgical instruments. Southwest of the town, the single- nave church remains of St. George and St. Elujah churches can be found. Perhaps one of the main landmarks in the city itself is the St. Trinity Church. Built in 1835, it is one of the largest churches built during the Bulgarian Revival period. The cobble stone streets are charming and romantic and will undoubtedly lead you to one of the many traditional houses representing unique Bulgarian architecture.

The main square in Bansko is surely something you’ll pass by at least once during your trip. Especially pleasant during the summer, the flowing fountains and passersby will make you stop by one of the nearby cafes. Just 150 meters from the Nikola Vaptzarov House, the Glazne Riveris a great place to take a walk during the warmer months and avoid the typically touristy sites. Dobrinishte village is only some 6 km. south of Bansko and is known for its mineral springs, fresh air and offers more modest skiing opportunities. Another mostly summer event worth visiting Bansko for is the Bansko Jazz Festival which is held every August at the Nikola Vaptazarov Square.
