Location of Bansko

Established in 9 AD, and encircled by Pirin, Rila and the Rhodope Mountains, the town of Bansko has one of the most stunning, scenic, natural settings. It is in southwestern Bulgaria and is at an altitude of 925 m. above sea level and has long been considered to be the most developed and modern ski and winter resort in Eastern Europe. The Pirin Mountain is the seventh highest Europe and has an area of 2 585 sq.km.
            The north part of Pirin, where Bansko is roughly situated takes up approximately 74% of the mountain’s territory, and a length of 42 km. The surrounding area has an Alpine appearance with numerous lakes, mountain cabins and other types of accommodation. Bansko is located close to the river Glazne at the northeastern foot of Pirin, some 160 km. from Sofia.
            The Bansko ski runs are located in two main ski centers- Chalin Valong at 1100- 1600m. and Shiligarnika at 1700- 2500 m. Both area approximately 10 km. above the town and are easily reached via a 25 min. ride on the new Gondola lift. The total length of the runs is roughly some 70 meters.
            In recent years, the resort has drastically improved conditions, facilities and infrastructure and employed modern technological advances such as 44 Techno- alpine snow cannons and 12 maintenance vehicles, 8 seat Gondola cabin lift, 3 seat lift by Poma, 7 drags and 10 baby drags. It is fair to say, that the professionalism with which the resort and its amenities are maintained have made it a world renowned holiday spot and is appreciated by avid skiers from all over the world.
